During the period October 2009 through March 2010, Dharma teacher Fred Eppsteiner led a group of students in the study and practices of the Anapanasati Sutra, also known as the "Full Awareness of the Breath Sutra." Over the course of two four-day retreats, Fred provided commentary on the Sutra, as well as meditation instructions that focused on the Buddha's teachings for cultivating a clear, serene and insightful mind. In the second retreat, Fred also focused on teachings related to the Seven Factors of Enlightenment to help clarify the requisites needed for living an awakened life.

The Vimilakirti Sutra is the preeminent Buddhist text for any layperson who aspires to lead an awakened and altruistically purposeful life. It has inspired and guided Buddhist lay practitioners throughout Asia for over a thousand years.
Vimilakirti, a profoundly awakened disciple of the Buddha, was a family man, businessman, community leader, and friend to all in need. He was also known for his awakened wisdom and was respected by all the Buddha’s disciples. This beloved sutra is both great drama and profound instruction, as it succinctly and pragmatically shows laypeople how to practice highest wisdom and compassion in their daily lives. While teaching this sutra to retreat participants over three successive seven-day retreats at Southern Dharma Retreat Center, Fred drew on his meditative experience in the Zen, Dzogchen (Great Perfection), and mindfulness-based traditions, as well as his many years as a professional psychotherapist, to bring this wonderful Sutra to life for students.
