Five-day Retreat | September 2015
Buddhism teaches that to truly free the mind from fear, we can't simply deny or cover over its existence. Instead, we have to look deeply into the causes of our fears.
In this five day retreat, FCM Dharma teacher Fred Eppsteiner teaches that in order to overcome our delusions around life that create our fears, we need to practice mindfulness, calming, and insight to become intimate with these fears rather than trying to cast them out. By doing so, we discover a profound personal fearlessness within. We now have a capacity to live a courageous life.

Tampa | August 23, 2015
Our Western culture turns away from death, often moving the elderly and ill to nursing homes so that this final and perhaps most significant event of our lives is hidden. As a result, most people are very uncomfortable contemplating death, either abstractly or personally. Anxiety abounds in our society, with the largest, deepest fear being that of death. In this Dharma talk, Fred talks about the importance of looking at death, and the promise for liberation that a deep understanding and acceptance of death offers.

True Independence (2015)
Monday Dec 09, 2019
Monday Dec 09, 2019
Tampa | July 5, 2015
This Independence Day weekend, Fred shared and commented on some of the great Chan Master Linji's verses on true independence. While political freedom is certainly laudable, its capacity to create value in a society is limited by how the people in that society interact with one another. Fred pointed out that as long as we are bound by our past conditioning, our actions are likely to create suffering for ourselves and those around us. It is only by freeing ourselves from the bondage of this conditioning that we can truly be free to act in ways that benefit others. Fred showed us how Lin Chi's instructions, if followed, can give us the ability to act as truly free and independent agents.
