True Independence (2015)

Monday Dec 09, 2019
Tampa | July 5, 2015
This Independence Day weekend, Fred shared and commented on some of the great Chan Master Linji's verses on true independence. While political freedom is certainly laudable, its capacity to create value in a society is limited by how the people in that society interact with one another. Fred pointed out that as long as we are bound by our past conditioning, our actions are likely to create suffering for ourselves and those around us. It is only by freeing ourselves from the bondage of this conditioning that we can truly be free to act in ways that benefit others. Fred showed us how Lin Chi's instructions, if followed, can give us the ability to act as truly free and independent agents.

Seven-day Retreat | June 2015
Since the time of the Buddha, countless teachers have pointed out the innate simplicity and spontaneous wisdom of our true mind. Unfettered by conditioning and emotional reactivity, this mind has the capacity to guide and support us spontaneously in living an awakened life.
During this seven-day retreat at Southern Dharma Retreat Center, Dharma teacher Fred Eppsteiner used meditative texts, poems, and songs from the Zen, Chan, and Great Perfections traditions to guide participants into the world of the Buddha Mind and show them how to integrate this understanding in all circumstances of daily life. Unencumbered by any philosophical or religious overlay, the natural wisdom and compassion of these lineages of enlightened living was presented to demonstrate their relevance to our modern life.

Verses on Happiness (Dhammapada) (2015)
Monday Nov 11, 2019
Monday Nov 11, 2019
Tampa | May 3, 2015
Fred teaches from the Dhammapada's "Verses on Happiness." To live without hate in a world of hatred, to live without craving in a world of craving, and to live without impediments, we must 1) understand, with compassion, the causes and conditions that are the basic operating principles of this world, and 2) be clear about our own aspirations and what we wish to be cultivating to find true lasting happiness, which comes from within, not without.
